Wanda Rae Maynard

Wanda Rae Maynard, 83, of Gaithersburg, Maryland, formerly of Lenore, WV, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 30, 2023. She was born to the late Woodrow and Gertrude Mae Marcum on June 3, 1940, in Mingo, WV. Wanda graduated from Lenore High School in Lenore, WV. She married the love of her life Ken Maynard in 1957 and had three beautiful sons. Wanda worked as a telephone operator for Bell Atlantic and retired after over 40 years of service. She spent her time as a doting wife, mother, and grandmother, as well as a caregiver to loved ones for several years. Her life is considered by her loved ones as an example of strength, perseverance, and compassion. Wanda was a faithful sister in Christ. She loved the Lord with all her heart. She was a member of the Tri County Baptist Church in Damascus, MD and formerly the Little Dove Baptist Church in Belo, WV. She was a loving Wife, Mother, and Grandmother. She was very proud of her family and her six grandchildren were the lights of her life. Wanda is survived by her three children Ken Maynard Junior (Rita) of Frankfort, KY, Kevin Maynard (Penny) of Oakwood, GA, and Sean (Candace) of Gaithersburg, MD. She is also survived by her six grandchildren: Ken Maynard III (Lucia) of Portsmouth, NH, Kelli Maynard of Asheville, NC, Kevin Maynard (Satin) of Asheville, NC, Kyle Maynard (Rebecca) of Salt Lake City, UT, Tyler Maynard of Oakwood, GA, and Emmeline Maynard of Gaithersburg, MD. Wanda was preceded in death by her parents, sister Ethel, and her daughter-in-law Penny Maynard. Wanda will be greatly missed by her husband, children, grandchildren and loving family. But we know we will see her again. We are so thankful for her and the life she shared with all who knew her. Funeral services will be held at Little Dove United Baptist Church in Belo, WV, under the direction of Chafin Funeral Home, on Thursday, October 5, 2023 at 11am. Burial will follow at Maynard Family Cemetery. Visitations will be held on Wednesday, October 4, 2023, 4 to 5pm for family, and after 6pm for visitors. Her sons, grandsons, and friends will serve as Pallbearers. The family would like to extend their heartful thanks to the nursing staff at Suburban Hospital in Bethesda, Maryland for the excellent care given to Wanda during her illness.
