Scotty Leonard Sammons

Scotty Leonard Sammons, age 70, of Baisden, West Virginia, passed away peacefully on December 19, 2025 and is now with his Lord and Savior. Born on July 10, 1955, Scotty was the son of the late William Howard and Opal Cline Sammons. He was a cherished Dad, Pawpaw, father-in-law, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. A proud graduate of Gilbert High School, class of 1973, Scotty was known for his talents in basketball, football, and boxing. He was a retired coal miner with 30 years’ experience and was a certified electrician. His final 14 years of work were with Daniels Branch Coal Company where he made lifelong friendships with his fellow coal miners. He was a proud member of the Southern Coalfield Mine Rescue Team. He was a founding member of the Baisden Volunteer Fire Department where he once served as president. Scotty had a big heart and loved nothing more than spending time with his family, especially his son, grandsons, and brothers. His kindness and generosity were felt by everyone who knew him. A true “jack of all trades”, Scotty was always willing to lend a helping hand. He enjoyed playing basketball and golfing, riding four-wheelers, and simply being surrounded by those he loved. Scotty was strong in his Christian faith and was a devoted member of the Word of Truth Church in Omar, WV. He will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy and memory will be lovingly carried on by his son, Brandon Scott Sammons and his wife Charisma Bailey Sammons; his grandsons, Connor Sammons and his fiancée Skyler and Branson Sammons; his girlfriend Brenda Preece; his brothers, Tom Sammons and his wife Betty, Terry Sammons and his wife Penny, and Drexel Sammons and his wife Ann; Ernie Sammons and his wife Tina who was like a brother to him; his special cousin Katrina Brown who was like a sister to him; his lifelong best friend, Keith Lester and wife Tammy and Howard Lee; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. A Celebration of Life will be held in the spring at Gilbert, WV. To remember Scotty, In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Word of Truth Church, 29 Cow Creek Road, Omar, WV 25638.
