Ruthie Vance

Ruthie Jane Lucas Vance, of Riffe Branch, West Virginia, was welcomed into Heaven on Saturday, June 15, 2024 while at home at the age of 85. She was born on April 1, 1939 to the late Thomas and Vicie Runyon Lucas in Myrtle, West Virginia. Along with her parents, Ruthie was escorted into her eternal home by her husband of 64 years, Roland Vance, her son, Gordon Vance, her brothers, Edward Lucas, Andrew “Buddy” Lucas, and Roosevelt Lucas, and her sisters, Stella “Tiny” Belcher, Nan Smith, Bonnie Dingess, and Vanessa Lucas. Those left behind to cherish her memory include her son, Timothy Vance, her brothers, Danny K. Lucas and Michael (Sharon) Lucas, her sisters, Ella Thompson, Carol Sue Rittgers, Josie Sheppard, and Debbie Fields, her granddaughter, Martine Carty, and her great granddaughters, Courtney and Mackenzie. Ruthie also leaves behind her special friend, Marsha Burke, and a host of other loving nieces, nephews, family members, and friends. Ruthie worked as a homemaker throughout her life, but spent a lot of her time helping others, loving to do charity work and visit with those in the nursing home. She was a loving wife and mother. She enjoyed stopping by McDonald’s or KFC to grab a bite to eat and visit with shut-ins. The thing that Ruthie loved the most was The Lord. She was saved at just 19 years old and served him for 66 years, proving her faith and sharing her testimony as she progressed. She often said that she was kept healthy by The Lord to do his good works, and she did nothing but that in her lifetime. She was a charter member of the Shepherd of the Hills Freewill Baptist Church in Maher, West Virginia for 4 years and was often called “Mother Wisdom” for her faith and wisdom she retained of the bible. She helped countless people throughout their time of struggle when reading the bible, guiding them to a better understanding. Ruthie loved her church family like her own and she will forever be dearly missed by all who knew her. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 18, 2024 at Chafin Funeral Home in Delbarton, West Virginia from 6:00 PM-9:00 PM, with a special service being held at 7:00 PM. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 19, 2024 at the Shepherd of the Hills Freewill Baptist Church in Maher, West Virginia at 1:00 PM. Burial will be to follow at the Vance Family Cemetery in Riffe Branch, West Virginia. Pallbearers for Ruthie will include family and friends. Chafin Funeral Home is proudly serving her loving family.
