Rusty Martin

Rusty Martin, 67, of Taylorville, WV, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, August 11, 2024, while visiting with family in Dandridge, Tennessee. He was born on December 20, 1956, in Logan, WV. Rusty was the son of the late William J and Joetta Keith Martin. Rusty was a 1975 graduate of Burch High School. He was a member of the Grace and Truth Church from Boy Scout Hollow in Ragland, WV where he served as a Deacon for 16 years. Rusty also served as a Deacon for 31 years at Rockhouse Freewill Baptist Church in Ragland, WV. If you knew Rusty well, then you knew he was an outside person who loved to make everything look so neat and clean. His favorite thing to do was to fertilize and cut his grass. He had a heart of gold. He loved the Lord. He enjoyed playing the piano and singing. He was a dedicated individual to his church and wanted to see more souls be saved. He touched so many lives down through the years that he spent here on this Earth. He was the type of person who took pleasure in watching everyone else laugh and have a good time. He truly adored spending time with his family especially around the campfire and took great pleasure in his grandkids and always made sure they had the very best. Very seldom did you see Rusty without a smile on his face, but if you did, then we knew something wasn’t right. He devoted his life around working with the youth in church for over 47 years. Relaxing time for him meant spending time in Tennessee riding the boat, working around his sister’s house, and taking his grandbabies out for fun activities in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. His life revolved around his grandbabies. McKinley and Mason clinged to him daily. The bond these three shared will never be erased. Papaw was their hero, but now he is their guardian angel. Papaw, we love you, and we are going to miss you. We can’t wait to see you again one sweet day. He had so many co-workers that he admired down through the years especially Jarrett and Dave Waller. He spoke highly of you both very often. Rusty was employed by EMF in Chattaroy, WV for 7 years as a supervisor. He worked for 43 years at Tramco where he supervised many of individuals. Rusty was preceded in death by his siblings Walter, Ralph, Rick, Randall, and Della Ann Martin. Son-in-Laws, Jacob Lee Whitt and Carl Edward Dempsey along with one Brother-in-Law, Sheriff Eugene Crum. Those left behind to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 47 years, Dorothy Gail Martin, who he cherished dearly. Daughters, Kassie Martin (Tevin Williams) of Taylorville, WV and Stephanie Dempsey (Ronny Gillman) of Hatfield, KY. Son, Ronnie Lee Campbell (Rebecca Duncan) of Taylorville, WV. Grandkids (McKinley, Mason, Cameron, Sierra, Keirsten, Kyle, and Harley). Sisters, Rosie Crum of Dandridge, TN and Rena (Dallas) Elswick of Nitro, WV along with very special nieces and nephews who he admired so much. Funeral services will be held at the Grace and Truth Church at Boy Scout Hollow in Ragland, WV on Friday, August 16, 2024, at 12pm with Bro. Paul Caudill and Bro. Gary Stewart officiating. Burial will follow to his final resting place on the land he loved so dearly in Taylorville, WV. Visitation will be at the church on Thursday, August 15, 2024, from 6-9pm with special services beginning at 7pm. Pallbearers will be Ronnie Campbell, Jarrett and Dave Waller, Tevin Williams, Cameron Dempsey, Junior Workman, Eugene Bub Crum, and Daniel Martin.
