Robert Mahon

Robert Martin Mahon, of Naugatuck, WV, passed away peacefully on September 4th, 2026 at the age of 88. He was born on January 27, 1938 in Belo, WV to Dewey and Alice Mahon. He proudly served in the United States Army from 1956 to 1958 as a Specialist Third Class in the Quartermaster Corps. During his service he trained at Fort Ord, California, completed Food Service School, and served at Fort Lee, Virginia. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal and continued his service from 1958 to 1962 in the U.S. Army Reserve. He brought his love of cooking home, and enjoyed making meals for his family. Following his military service, he worked in the coal mining industry before dedicating many years of his life to his career as a skilled carpenter. Through his craftsmanship, he left a lasting mark on countless homes and lives. Robert was a dedicated, hard-working man who believed that nothing in life is given—everything is earned. Known for his upbeat sense of humor and bold, feisty personality, he brought warmth and laughter to those around him. He cherished time with his family, especially his grandchildren, whom he considered his “best buddies.” Robert had a generous spirit and would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need. In his free time, he loved being outdoors—whether hunting, fishing, or digging roots—always enjoying the work, the challenge, and the natural world around him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alice and Dewey; brothers, Dewey Mahon Jr., Harold Mahon; sisters Carrie Dingess, Allie Mae Thacker, Katherine Atkins, Myrtle Shrum, Marg Grmek; daughter Jennifer Kozee; son Kenneth Mahon; and grandson Robert Keaton Mahon. He is survived by his partner, Kathy Kozee; sister Julia Wallace (Eullace); brother Ewell Mahon; his sons, Robert Martin Mahon, Jr. (Kim), Daniel Kozee, Jeremiah Stacey Hall; his daughters, Alice Belcher (David), Tracy Harvey(Greg), Catherine Whitt (James), Katie Mahon, Abigail Kozee, and Debbie Salmons; his grandchildren, Madyson Coleman, Kayla Eller (Jake), Ashley Fischer (Matthew), Joshua Belcher (Amanda), Carson Mahon, Landon Mahon; Drew Harvey, Alex Harvey, Mason Harvey, Jeremiah Hall, Hunter Hall, Lilah Ooten, Liam Whitt, Lola Whitt, Lawrence Whitt; and great grandchildren Caden Harvey, Mason Harvey, Kenzie Harvey. Nathan Peavy, Allie Hudson, Tessa Fischer, Wyatt Fischer, David Belcher, Liam Eller, Wells Eller, and Sullivan Eller; along with many nieces and nephews, extended family members, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. Services will be at Chafin Funeral Home located at 215 Riverside Dr., Delbarton, WV 25670. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 9, 2026 11:00 am to 1:00 pm with service beginning at 1:00 pm, with Eddie Shrum and William Hinkle officiating. Burial will follow at the Mahon Family Cemetery in Belo, WV, with friends and family serving as pallbearers. Though he will be deeply missed, his memory and lessons will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. Chafin Funeral Home is honored to serve the Mahon Family.
