Robert "Bobby" Adkins

Robert “Bobby” Adkins, 78, of Ragland, WV, entered into his heavenly home on March 21, 2026, while a patient at Appalachian Regional Hospital in South Williamson, KY. He was welcomed into Heaven by his great-grandson, Axel Zion White; his parents, Russell and Lillian Adkins; his brothers, Roger Dale, James Ray, and Leroy Adkins; and his sisters, Juanita Barker, Helen Runyon, and Trudy Newsome. Bobby was born on March 9, 1948, in Delbarton, WV. At the age of 16, he moved to Ohio, where he worked for four years before returning home in 1968. Soon after, he met the love of his life, Sharon Rose Thompson, and the two were united in marriage on January 26, 1969. A devoted husband, father, and provider, Bobby spent 32 years working in the coal mining industry. Throughout his career, he was employed by several companies, including Alum Creek 25, Leslie Mining, New Era, Cow Creek Coal, and Marrowbone Mining, where he eventually retired. Bobby enjoyed spending time in the hills with his friends and especially with his son, Roger. He found great joy in coon hunting and fishing. Above all, Bobby loved the Lord and loved witnessing to everyone he came in contact with. He was baptized in 1977 and faithfully served as a deacon for over 40 years. He was a dedicated member of Ragland Freewill Baptist Church where he was the church leader for many years after his Pastor Sam Ratlff went on to be with the Lord. He always made sure the doors were open. He was known for sharing his faith with everyone he met—he truly never met a stranger. Those who knew Bobby loved him, and he loved them in return. Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife of 57 years, Sharon Rose Adkins; his daughters, Mirinda (Darrin) Daniels and Rhonda (Elmer) Parsley; and his son, Roger (Jenny) Adkins. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Stony Austin (Ashley) White, who was his beloved “sidekick” and constant companion; they were always together from going to church, gardening or trading lawnmowers. They were inseparable. Bob loved Austin like a son. Chase (Jami) Adkins; Josh (Katlynn) Parsley; Cierra (Riley) Pinson, who was like a daughter to him and whom he lovingly chauffeured wherever she needed to go; Savannah Daniels, his “baby”; and Anna (Will) Bradley. His great-grandchildren include Axston Koal White, his little best friend; Roger Jamison Adkins; Rilynn Rose Pinson, who loved spending time at his home; and Arya Linley Bradley. He is further survived by his sister, Rita K. Mayhew, and his sister-in-law, Sandy Adkins, who was like a sister to him. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Cierra Pinson, Ashley White, and Stony Austin White for the loving care they provided during his final months. They also express their sincere gratitude to the staff of Appalachian Regional Hospital—including the second floor nurses, respiratory department, emergency room staff, and dietary department—for the compassion and care shown to Bobby and his family. Funeral services will be held at the Chafin Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, at 1:00 PM, with Rev. Haskell Runyon officiating. Burial will follow at Mountain View Memory Gardens in Maher, WV. Visitation will be held at the funeral home chapel on Monday evening from 6:00 to 9:00 PM. Pallbearers will be Austin White, Riley Pinson, Darrin Daniels, Chase Adkins, Roger Adkins, Elmer Parsley, Doug Newsome, and Keith Newsome. Chafin Funeral Home is honored to serve the Adkins family.
