Pauline DeLong Spence, cherished wife, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 1, 2024, in Charleston, WV, surrounded by her family. Pauline, 68, leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and unwavering strength that touched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her. Born on October 4, 1955, in Lovely, KY, Pauline embodied the essence of selflessness; always placing the needs of her loved ones above her own. Pauline’s dedication to her family knew no bounds. Despite facing countless challenges, she never wavered in her commitment to providing love, comfort, and stability to those she held dear. Her selflessness was truly remarkable, as she always prioritized the well-being of her family above all else. Even as her own health began to decline and she endured nearly a decade of blindness, Pauline remained steadfast in her devotion to her loved ones. She faced each day with grace and courage, never once complaining or allowing her own struggles to overshadow her boundless love for her family. Pauline’s grandchildren held a special place in her heart, and she longed to do more for them, despite her own limitations. Her love for the knew no bounds, and she cherished every moment spent with them, instilling in them the same values of compassion, resilience, and selflessness that defined her own life. She loved being a “Mimi” and adored each of the six grandchildren immensely. Pauline was a member of the Caney Church of Christ and was preceded in death by her parents, Paul ad Gladys Fields DeLong. She is survived by her loving husband of 48 years, Clyde Spence, her devoted children and their spouses, Clyde Jr. (Chris Morris) of Long Branch, NJ and Ronnie Darrell (Bridget) of Prestonsburg, KY, and her six adoring grandchildren, Nicholas, Noah, and Isabella Spence of South Charleston, WV, and Kate Moon, Kassidy, and Kameron Spence of Prestonsburg, KY. Pauline is also survived by her siblings, Richard P. (Dotty) DeLong of Westport, IN, Wilda (John) Harrison of Hatfield, KY, Linda (Bruce) Justice of Turkey Creek, KY, and Tony DeLong, also of Turley Creek, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and other extended family who will forever hold her memory dear. Final arrangements include a public visitation on Sunday, May 5, 2024 from 6-9pm at Chafin Funeral Home in Delbarton, WV, with a funeral on Monday, May 6 at noon, also at the funeral home. She will be laid to rest at Mountain View Memory Gardens in Maher, WV, with beloved family and friends serving as pallbearers. Pauline Spence will be deeply missed, but never forgotten. May she rest in eternal peace, surrounded by the love and warmth she brought to the world.
