Linda Carolyn Chandler

Linda Carolyn Chandler, 78, of Forest Hills, Kentucky, passed away on Sunday, August 2, 2026, while a patient at Pikeville Medical Center. Born on July 15, 1948, she was the daughter of the late Homer Layne and Hollie Williams Layne. In addition to her parents, Linda was preceded in death by her brothers, Tex Layne and Greg Layne. Linda was a devoted Christian who found great joy in serving the Lord. She was a faithful member of East Kermit Church of God in Kermit, West Virginia, where she cherished her church family and lived out her faith. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren, who were the greatest blessing in her life. She also enjoyed being outdoors, tending her garden, and appreciating the beauty of God's creation. Dedicated to shaping young minds and empowering generations of students, she spent her career as a compassionate educator within the Mingo County School System for 49 years. Teaching was more than a profession to her—it was a lifelong calling rooted in patient guidance, constant encouragement, and an unwavering belief in every child’s potential. Beyond the daily lessons and classroom walls, she poured her heart into mentoring students, supporting colleagues, and serving as a steady, uplifting presence in the community. Her legacy of wisdom, kindness, and devotion to education lives on in the countless lives she touched throughout her years of service. Those left to cherish her memory include her beloved husband of 50 years, Harold Chandler; her sons, Matt Chandler (Angie) and Jason Chandler (Jenny); her sisters, Debbie Layne, Sharon Hurley (Darrell), and Kathy Burke; and her cherished grandchildren, Layne, Brooks, Hazel, Nolan, Hollie, Miles, and Ryan, along with her special friends Pam Chapman (Greg), Arva Reynolds, and Melissa Hatfield (Toby). There are many extended family members and friends who will miss her dearly. Visitation will be held at East Kermit Church of God in Kermit, West Virginia, on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, beginning at 6:00 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. at the church with Rev. Daniel Mayhew officiating. Burial will follow at Mountain View Memory Gardens in Maher, West Virginia, with family and friends serving as pallbearers. Chafin Funeral Home is honored to serve the Chandler family during this time.
