Joyce Ann Sturgill

Joyce Ann Sturgill, 41, of Riffe Branch Rd., Myrtle W, departed this life unexpectedly, Friday, September 1, 2023. Joyce lived the last 2 years of her life with her father, Johnny Sturgill. She was his caregiver. Previously, Joyce was totally devoted to the care of her mother, Debra Ann Sturgill, who had lingering health problems for many years. No two parents could have asked for a more devoted and loving daughter than Joyce. Joyce Ann was graduated from Tug Valley High School in the Class of 2000. She chose the Business Curricula, and was able to complete every program offered. Joyce loved using her computer, cell phones and endless supply of electronic devices, with which she was gifted and hoped to use them along with her excellent secretarial skills in the field of information technology. Joyce made many personal sacrifices for her family, but never showed any regret for her decisions. She also was the best sister and aunt "Kat-Kat" to Bella and Stella, her nieces. The two girls were simply the greatest loves of her life. Joyce Ann is preceded in death by her mother, Debra Ann Sturgill, of Turkey Creek, KY; she has joined her grandparents; grandmother Jane Hall, grandfather John Sturgill and his wife Cynthia Sturgill. She has also been reunited wih her "Pap" Lorenzo Dow Ooten Jr., and her beloved "Granny", Joyce Tingler Ooten. Joyce Ann has two special aunts and uncles, who have awaited her arrival; Vesta and Virgil Sammons and Lilly and Gary Jude; and a most very special nephew. Micah Joseph Sammons Joyce is survived by her dad, John J. Sturgill, of their home; one brother and best friend John L. Sturgill and his wife Shannon, of Aflex, KY; their two daughters, Bella and Stella. Dorothy Brown, Shannon's mother, also survives. Her Dad's brother and sister, Ronnie and Joellen Sturgill of Akron, OH, also survive. Joyce leaves behind a very special aunt and uncle, Butch and Sue Watkins, who have always been a large part of her life. They have been especially good to her during the last two years, while she lived at Riffe Branch. Finally, she leaves behind two uncles, her "Poppy", Dow M. Ooten, and her "Uncle Mike," Michael D. Mitchell. Joyce is survived by her five cousins with whom she was raised as her siblings; "Sis" Angel Lynn (Shane) Ward; "Bubby" Tony (Lisa) Sammons; "My Bert Bert" (Virgil Lee Sammons Jr.; ) "Wibby" Wilburn Gene (Eva) Jude; and Gary Michael Jude. Next, Joyce leaves two special nephews and two special nieces; TJ Sammons, LaFollette, TN; Aaron Blake Jude, U.S. Armed Forces, South Korea; two nieces Charity and Caylen Ward, Mineral Wells, WV. Additionally, Joyce leaves behind a multitude of family, cousins, friends, Facebook and social media companions. Your comments on her Facebook page will become her memorial and will be deeply treasured. Finally Joyce leaves behind her constant companions, best friends and her three 3 feline children; Wilson, Forrest and Jenny. In honoring the wishes of Joyce Ann, cremation will take place and services celebrating her life will be held at the Chafin Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, September 8, 2023 at 11:00am with Rev. Dr. Ryan Ward officiating.
