James Adkins

James Adkins 79 of Delbarton, WV passed from this life on July 29, 2024 while a patient at the Pikeville Medical Center in Pikeville, KY. James was the son of the late Alex and Sally Hunt Adkins. In addition his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Alice Starr Adkins, sons, Jimmy and Wayne Adkins, sisters, Alice Dempsey, Mandy Spillman and Goldie Nichols, brothers, William Bert and Charles Lewis Adkins and grandchildren, John Blackburn and Brielle Dotson. James was a faithful servant and dedicated his life to serving the Lord after he got saved in March of 1994. He was always sharing the word of God to those around him in hopes that another soul would be saved. He was a longtime member of the Duncan Fork United Baptist Church. He loved spending his free time visiting with those in nursing homes and hospitals, always doing good works. James was a member of the Delbarton Fire Department for more than 30 years and was awarded the Delbarton Community Service Award. Which is given to a distinguished member of the community for outstanding service. He worked with Chafin Funeral Home for many years leading funeral processions. His love for his community was very evident. Family was very important to James. He loved his Sunday breakfast get-togethers, playing spades and spending time with family, especially his grandkids. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Amber Hall Adkins, his children, Clifford Dale and his wife April Adkins, Chad Adkins and Nicole Alexander, Harmon and his wife Kristy Adkins, Wendy and her husband Kenny Smith, Eva Jean and her husband James Blackburn and Aileen Vinson and Mike Crum. He also leaves behind a special sister-in-law who he loved as his daughter, Helen Fisher and 36 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at the Chafin Funeral Home Chapel Thursday, August 1, 2024 at 1:00pm with Elders Eddie Layne and Acie Copley officiating. Burial will follow in the Runyon Cemetery at Belo, WV. Members of the Delbarton Volunteer Department will serve as pallbearers. Visitation will be at the funeral home Wednesday evening from 6-9pm with services starting at 7:00pm. The family would like to give special thanks to the hospital and staff of Pikeville Medical Center 9th floor and special thanks to Nurse Matt.
