Reverend David Preston Powers

Reverend David Preston Powers, 81, of Delbarton, WV, went home to be with the Lord on January 21, 2021, while surrounded by his loving family. He was born January 17, 1940 at McRoberts, Kentucky. He is the son of the late Reverend Leonard Preston Powers & Ethel Collier Powers. David was a Bishop of the Gospel Revelation Ministries, and he attended the Regional Church of God after retiring from the ministry. He was preceded in death by 5 brothers and 4 sisters. Those left behind to cherish his memories are his loving wife of sixty years, Juanita Dillon Powers (Delbarton) who he affectionally said was the prettiest girl he’d ever seen, His son & Daughter-In-Law, Richard & Deanna Powers (Delbarton), two grandsons, Jayden Powers (Delbarton), & Austin & Piper Powers (Morgantown). His grandkids were the apple of his eye. He is also survived by one loving sister, Norma Brummett of Delaware, and a host of nieces and nephews, which he loved dearly. David proudly served our country as a Navy seaman aboard the USS Casa Grande. He was a retired union coal miner and was an active participant of UMWA’s Local 1440. Although he served and worked with great tenacity, his favorite times were spent with family and friends at Smith Mountain Lake, or any lake for that matter. David was a people person, and his door was always open to anyone that wanted to fish, ski, or just hang out by the lake. Lake days were always great days. He was an avid hunter, sharpshooter, & a competitive angler. David was an active volunteer in the Delbarton Homecoming’s annual fishing tournament. He looked forward to this every year, and loved the smiles on the kids’ faces. Of all of the accolades and accomplishments David had in life, his most proud moments were those spent with his son and grandkids. He spent every moment he could, teaching them to tie different knots, fish, hunt, build things, drive the boat, and most of all how to be expert marksmen. He taught them quite well, and they made him proud. We are thankful for the many memories, and the investment David made into many lives. He will truly be missed, but he is certainly leaving a great legacy. Funeral Services for David will be held at Chafin Funeral Home in Delbarton, with Pastor Earl White and Mitchell Bias officiating. Friends and family may pay respects on Monday, January 25 from 6-9, and the Funeral will be held on Tuesday at 1:00. Interment will be at Mountain View Memory Gardens at Maher.
