Lucille Hanshaw Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Lucille Hanshaw, 84, of Delbarton, WV, departed this life on February 1, 2022 following a courageous battle with Dementia. She was born Lucille Gerdene Duty on April 5, 1937 to Thomas Cullen Duty and Mary Esther Chafins Duty in Ragland, WV. She graduated from Burch High School, class of 1954. One of her joyful memories about high school was her activities as a cheerleader, majorette and Riflette. After graduation, she married her high school sweetheart, Richard James Hanshaw (Skip) on May 5, 1954 in front of Preacher Compton’s old cold stove. For the next 20 years, as an Air Force Wife, she resided throughout the United States as well as France and Germany. She loved the Lord and was baptized in Sumter South Carolina at the Baptist Church of Dalzell in 1972. Lucille was a dedicated wife and mother for most. She treasured her children and loved every moment shared with them. She was very out spoken and was known for not sugar coating anything. If asked “Do you work?” she would reply “No, I just stay home and take care of my kids”. She loved her Skipper and girls the most, even more than a Diet Dr. Pepper and jelly beans. Her homemade vegetable soup, pineapple upside down cake, chocolate fudge and grape jelly will surely be missed by all. Lucille was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 66 years, her sister Lassie Mae Keene, her daughter Crystal Farley and grandson Richard Collins. Those left to cherish her memory are her brother, Granville (Illa Jean) Duty of Baltimore, OH, her daughter, Sharon (Mickey) Collins of Delbarton, granddaughters, Kristen Farley and Farrah Farley, great-grandsons, Michael Evans, Kaden Collins and great-great grandson Adam Evans. She also leaves behind a special friend Gail Dixon of Kings Mountain, NC. The family will forever be grateful for her caregiver, Sandy Turner. In honoring Lucille’s wishes, cremation will take place and no services will be held at this time. Please continue to life the family in your prayers.
