Leonard Akers Jr., 85, of Delbarton, WV passed away July 17, 2020 at his home. He was born December 3, 1934 at Cinderella, WV. He was the son of the late Leonard Sr. and Estella Sue Harold Akers. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister, Geraldine Sammons, Half sister, Joann Akers, brothers, Freddie, Jack and Andy Akers. Leonard was a veteran of the US Marines and served in the Korean War. He was the sound man at the Delbarton Opry House for many years until his health declined and he could no longer do so. He enjoyed cutting grass and raising a garden. He also enjoyed sitting outside in his swing in the summer, eating popsicles and sharing them with all the kids in the neighborhood. Leonard is survived by two brothers, Jerry Akers Sr. of Matewan, WV and Claude Akers of Jacksonville, FL, 2 half-sisters, Brenda Akers and Blanche McClellan both of Carroll, OH, special friends, Carolyn and Willie Lecco who took him to numerous doctor’s appointments and hospital visits since 2012. Special neighbors who he considered his kids and grandchildren, Homer and Jennifer Justice, Jake and Amber Justice, Chase Justice, Harley Pauley and Harley Ziegler. Other special neighbors, June and Percy Canterbury along with their children and grandchildren. Leonard will be sadly missed by all who knew him. The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Abaas and staff at the Williamson Health and Wellness Center, hospital staff at the Williamson Memorial Hospital, ARH, Pikeville Medical Center and Cabell Huntington Hospital and Dignity Hospice of Chapmanville, WV. Grave side services will be held at the Mountain View Memory Gardens at Huddy, KY, Wednesday July 22, 2020 at 1:00pm with Rev. Dallas Rife officiating. Chafin Funeral home is in charge of the arrangements.
