Edward Ooten, 96, of Myrtle, WV, passed away peacefully on February 25, 2019 at the Appalachian Regional Hospital. He was born January 12, 1923 at Belo, WV. He was the son of the late Walter and Elizabeth Dempsey Ooten. He was also preceded in death by his loving wife, Laverne (Myrtle) Ooten, brothers; Okie Lee, Curtis and Virgil Ooten, sisters; Polly Blankenship, Thelma Jackson and Ailca Estep and a special grandson; Brandon Townsend. Edward was a World War II Veteran. While working as a welder at the shipyard in Norfolk, VA, he answered his countries call. He served in the 8th Army Air Force for three years as a radio repairman. He was a faithful member of the Duncan Fork United Baptist Church for many years where he served as a Trustee of the church. His favorite time was attending the Old Zion Association and served as one of the delegates many times. He leaves behind a son; Gregory Bruce and his wife, Mildred Ooten, grandchildren; Natasha Townsend and Dr. Darth and Dr. Lisa Ooten and Great-grandchildren; Amelia, Drew and Luke Townsend as well as a host of nieces and nephews. He was very proud of his grandchildren for the adults they have become. When he had the opportunity, he loved spending time with his family. Funeral services will be held Thursday February 28, 2019 at the Duncan Fork United Baptist Church at 1:00pm with Elders Ransom Chafin, Eddie Layne and Eddie Hatfield officiating. Burial will follow in the Preece Cemetery on Trace Creek with family and friends serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be at the church Thursday starting at 11:00am until the start of the funeral.
