Wanda Jean Runyon Ooten

Wanda Jean Runyon Ooten, 84 of Delbarton, WV passed away Friday, March 17th, 2023 at her residence. She was born May 26, 1938, the daughter of the late Elder Edward Runyon and Irene Napier Runyon. She is also preceded in death by her husband of 58 years Noah Ooten, a daughter, Connie Irene Ooten Adams, brothers; Thomas Edward Runyon, Dallas Thurman Runyon, and sisters; Victoria Runyon, and Jackie Runyon Workman. Wanda was a member of the Bethany Old Regular Baptist Church. She worked for over 20 years for the Mingo County Board of Education, she also worked many years as a cook at the Chafin Grade School and in her later years she worked as an aide. She loved the children and remembered most of them by name, even after they were grown and had their own children. Many times, she would recognize an adult and would say “there’s one of my kids, I used to feed them”. They would remember her, give her a hug and recount their school days and their favorite food. Those left behind to cherish her precious memory includes her sons; Willis Eddie (JoAnn) Ooten, Noah Dale Ooten, daughter, Bernadine (Dennis) Maynard, sister, Sue Runyon Brinager, grandchildren; Adam (Leslie) Ooten, Candace Maynard (Rich) Hanson, Shnoah Ooten, Amy Ooten (Jason) Koutsunis, Shane Edward (Stephanie) Ooten, Harold (Lynn) Preece, and Ethan Ooten, Step Grandchildren; Nicole Deskins, Bryan Vernatter, and Brandon Adkins. Great grandchildren; Ashton Ooten, Addison Ooten, Aaron Ooten, Avery Ooten, Jacob Ooten, Liam Ooten, Brennan Ooten, and Julian Koutsunis, and Step great- Grandchildren; Aidan Deskins, Braxton Deskins, Austin Vernatter, and Kaitlynn Vernatter. Funeral services will be held at the Chafin Funeral Home chapel Sunday March 19, 2023 at 12pm. with Elders Albert Cable, and Arthur May officiating. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 11am until the start of the funeral. Burial will follow in the Ooten Family Cemetery and friends and family will serve as pallbearers. The family would like to extend their appreciation to the Dignity Hospice of Chapmanville for their support, and a special thank you to Kiersten from Dignity, she was a blessing.
