Randy L. Hatfield

Randy Lynn Hatfield, age 63, of Nolan, West Virginia, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, January 8, 2026, while a patient at Appalachian Regional Hospital in South Williamson, Kentucky. Randy was born on July 27, 1962, the son of the late Wallie Hatfield. He is survived by his loving mother, Ethel White Hatfield. In addition to his father, Randy was preceded in death by his brother, Wallie Hatfield Jr., and his beloved son, Michael “Mikey” Hatfield. Randy was a proud 1980 graduate of Lenore High School, where he wore the red and white with pride and loved playing basketball. Following graduation, he worked briefly as a jailer before beginning a distinguished career with the Mingo County Sheriff’s Department. Randy faithfully served the citizens of Mingo County for 29 years, retiring with the rank of lieutenant. He was a graduate of the 83rd Basic Police Training Academy in 1993. During his service, Randy helped establish the Shop with a Deputy, played a vital role in the D.A.R.E. program, and was known for his dedication, integrity, and leadership. In his retirement years, Randy found joy fishing from the dock at his camper in Tennessee, where he and his grandson, Conor, made countless cherished memories at the lake. Randy was a faithful member of Parsley Bottom Freewill Baptist Church and was truly loved by all who knew him. Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife, Teresa Urban Hatfield; his son, Randy Hatfield Jr. “Whistle,” and wife Bethany; daughters, Ariel Stanley, and Elizabeth Mahon and husband Aaron; sister, Tina Burnett and husband Billy; mother, Ethel Hatfield; and grandchildren, Conor Stanley, Aleah Hatfield, Jazzy Hatfield, and Jacey Hatfield. Randy also held a special place in his heart for his niece, Taylor Burnett, and his longtime friends, James Pack, Rob Finley, and Okey Newsome. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 12, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. at Parsley Bottom Freewill Baptist Church at Lenore, WV, with Rev. Denny Evans officiating. Burial will follow in Ooten Cemetery on Trace Creek, beside his father. Visitation will be held Monday evening at Parsley Bottom Freewill Baptist Church from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., with services beginning at 7:00 p.m. and Rev. Matt Runyon officiating. Pallbearers will be Joe Smith, Allen Mounts, Arthur Farra, Blake Sipple, Booie Williams, Glen Messer, Phillip Muncy, and Josh Tincher. Chafin Funeral Home is honored to serve the Hatfield family.
