Margaret Smith

Margaret Ann (Peck) Smith, of New Castle, VA, a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed-on to her Heavenly Home on August 8, 2025, at the age of 70 in Salem, VA. Born on April 2, 1955 in Williamson, WV, Margaret was the beloved daughter of Ballard and Marie Clark Peck. She grew up in Delbarton, WV, surrounded by the love of her family and Faith in the Lord. These attributes laid the foundation for her family values to lead a humble, selfless and simplistic lifestyle. Margaret's educational journey began at Burch High School in Delbarton, WV she later pursued higher education at Pikeville College in Pikeville, KY, earning a degree in accounting and business management. On September 28, 1974, Margaret married Dennis Smith in Clintwood, VA. They were married nearly 51 years. Together, they built a warm and loving home near Williamson WV, raising two wonderful children. Margaret is survived by her husband Dennis Smith, daughter Jennifer Smith, son Jason Smith, special daughter-in-law Gina Smith, granddaughters Kaylee Pauley, Emily Smith, and Sophia Smith-Layfield, along with several cousins, nieces and nephews. Margaret held various positions throughout her life, but she often remarked that her most fulfilling job was that of a grandmother. She delighted in her role, creating lasting memories with her granddaughters, Kaylee, Emily, and Sophia. Margaret's nurturing spirit and infectious laughter brightened the lives of those around her, and her granddaughters were her pride and joy. Margaret's life, however, was not without sorrow. She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Ballard and Marie Clark Peck, her brothers John Peck, Bill Peck, Kenneth Peck and Robert Protuck, as well as her sister, Betty Protuck Erwin. Their memories remained etched in her heart, and she carried their love with her throughout her life. Friends and family will gather to celebrate Margaret's life at Rockhouse Freewill Baptist Church on August 15, 2025, at 12:00 PM with Rev. Scott Erwin officiating. Interment will follow at the Protuck-Peck Family Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the charity of your choice, honoring Margaret. Chafin Funeral Home will provide services to the Smith Family.
