Lynette Hicks

Lynette Maynard Hicks, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, neighbor, and friend, was escorted by the angels into the presence of God on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, at the age of 77, having departed this life from her home in Delbarton, WV, surrounded by several loved ones. She was born April 14, 1946, at Delbarton, WV, the daughter of the late Freelin and Allene Preece Maynard. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by the love of her life, Edgar Hicks, Jr., with whom she shared a wonderful life, a happy home, and beautiful children for nearly fifty years. She was a full-time wife and mother, and an impeccable homemaker. She was also preceded in death by brothers/sisters-in-law Robert Witten, Paul Layne and Charles “Fats” Mahon Jr., Clifford Marenko, Charles Ray Hicks, Clarence/Gracie Ferrell, John Musick, Bonnie Kinder; a cousin she loved like a brother, John W. Preece; and a grandson-in-law, Alex Ball. Many dear loved ones were waiting to greet her in heaven on Tuesday; and she is reunited with them at last. Her sincere prayer was always that the family circle be unbroken; and her prayers continue to echo through time for those who are yet to come to a relationship with Jesus. Lynette was a faithful Christian and longtime member of Regional (Delbarton) Church of God. She and Junior loved the Lord and were loyal supporters of both the late Pastor W.H. Compton as well as current Pastor Mitchell Bias; and their children have followed their example of serving the Lord and lending their abilities in the church and community alike. Her family always made her so proud. Lynette had an extraordinarily tender heart and great compassion and empathy for others; and there was no greater love story than the way she loved and helped care for her husband through declining health, providing constant care for several years. In recent months, when her own health took a serious downturn, her son, daughter, son-in-law, and siblings were in turn eager and honored to be able to surround and care for her. Theirs is a remarkable family who goes above and beyond when they’re needed the most; their devotion is commendable and their love unconditional. Those who remain behind to cherish the gift of her love and the legacy of her life include her son, Gerald Hicks; daughter Carole Jean and her husband, Perry Jobe; brothers Jimmy and wife Vernaye Maynard, Larry Maynard and Les Maynard; sisters Carole Marenko, Anita Musick Witten, Pamela Layne and Violet Mahon; a brother-in-law, Billy Hicks and sister-in-law, Lois McGee; granddaughters, Alicia (and husband Del) Harris, Jennifer Ball (and fiancée Glen “Hoss”Earnest II), and Braiden (and husband Casey) Yates; great-grandchildren, Madasen Lynn Harris, Brady Alexander Ball, Mason Perry Ball, and Carrigan Earnest; as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews and extended family who loved her dearly. She will also be missed by the Delbarton community, her neighbors, and her church family. The family would like to thank Lynette’s doctors and nurses, her caregiver, Misty Runyon, and everyone who has responded with such love during her illness and in this time of great loss. A celebration of Lynette’s life will be held Monday, February 26 at 11:00am at Regional Church of God in Delbarton, officiated by Pastors Mitchell Bias, Will Compton, Rick Hisle, and Jimmy Maynard. She will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband, Junior, in the Family Cemetery at Delbarton. Family will receive friends on Sunday evening from 6:00-9:00pm at the church; and friends and family will serve as pallbearers.
