Lucille Erwin

Lucille Erwin (nee Hamilton) passed away on Saturday, August 16th, 2025 at Stein Hospice in Sandusky, Ohio. Born in Pikeville, Kentucky to Alma Geraldine (Gerry) (Layne) and Halleck Hamilton on December 22, 1942. With a life devoted to raising her children and Grandchildren by being a homemaker, it’s not at all a surprise that she was the best Mom and Mamaw ever. Lucille was a 1960 graduate of Delbarton, WV’s Burch High School where she had the fortune of meeting her future husband Hershel. A devoted mother and grandmother, she was a Girl Scout Leader, and always ensured that her kids and grandkids were on-time to their various sporting and musical events, which she was certain to stay and watch. Lucille was a Go-Getter (in-fact that was her CB Radio Handle!) who crocheted countless beautiful afghans that her family continues to enjoy to this day. An amazing cook, her family always enjoyed her omelets, meatballs, stews, and fudge. Lucille enjoyed various games, such as crosswords and word searches, and loved playing bingo with her good friend Ruby Yepko. She also enjoyed a couples bowling team for years with her husband, and loved spending time with her family on vacation…Vegas being among her favorite destinations. She is survived by her husband of 64 years Hershel Erwin, daughter Deirdre Fitzthum, son Hal (Kelly) Erwin, and grandsons Andrew Lee (Erin) Fitzthum, Alexander Dane (Dayzi) Fitzthum M. D., and Otto Erwin. Great grandchildren, Ember Lyn, Edward Lee, Lena Marie, Lucia Rose, and Norabelle Layne Fitzthum. She was proceeded in death by her parents, son-in-law, David Lee Fitzthum, and a great grandson in infancy Gabriel. Visitation will take place at Chafin Funeral Home in Delbarton, West Virginia on Friday, August 22 from 4:30 pm to 6:30 PM. A funeral service will be held at the Rock House Free Will Baptist Church in Ragland, West Virginia on Saturday, August 23 beginning at 2:00 PM. Burial will be at the Erwin Cemetery in Lando Mines, West Virginia. Donations may be made to Back to the Wild (PO Box 423, Castalia Ohio 44824), Stein Hospice, or one’s favorite charity.
