James Clark

James Arthur Clark, 78, of Maiden, NC passed away peacefully at his residence on Saturday, August 15, 2026. Born January 2, 1948, in Mingo County, West Virginia, James was the beloved son of the late Hubert Lawrence Clark and Vesta Blankenship Clark. He was a man who knew the value of family, hard work, and making something with his own two hands. In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his brothers, Hubert Clark, Jr. and Jerry Clark, and his son, Andy Clark. James proudly served his country as a veteran of the U.S. Army. He also had the unique honor of riding one of the lead horses in President Eisenhower’s funeral parade, a memory that reflected his connection to the people and traditions around him. A talented carpenter, James loved building things. He could take raw materials and turn them into something useful, lasting, and meaningful. But perhaps his greatest work was the life he built with the people he loved. He leaves behind a family who will remember his strength, his stories, his hands that were always busy, and the many ways he made an impact on their lives. James is survived by his wife of 16 years, Tracy Clark of the home; his sons, James A. Clark, Jr. Joe Clark (Michelle), Kevin Clark, all of West Virginia, Blaine Elmendorf and wife Halie of Lincolnton, Brian Elmendorf of New York and Ajay Clark and wife Hailey of Sherrills Ford; his daughters, Cindy Clark Shortt and Donald Helms of West Virginia; Jessalyn Cloer of New York; grandchildren Daniel, J.J., Archie and Lyrik; and great-grandchild Amari. He is also survived by his wife’s daughter: Kimberly and Sandy Khounborin and their 2 children. He is also survived by his brothers, David Clark of North Carolina, John Clark, and Calvin Clark his sisters, Bonnie Thomas, Wanda Varney, Frances Justice, Glenetta Williams all of West Virginia. James will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved him. His life was built on family, service, hard work, and the simple satisfaction of creating something that would last. Though he is no longer here to build with his hands, the life he built with his family will remain. A memorial service for James will be held at the Airport Bottom Assembly in Delbarton, WV on Saturday September 12th, 2026, with Rev. Dallas Riffe and Rev. Calvin Clark officiating.
