Dorothy Washinton

Dorothy Mae Washington 87 of Delbarton, WV went home to be with her Lord on July 24, 2026 while a patient at the Pikeville Medical Center in Pikeville, KY. She was born July 9, 1939 in Delbarton, WV. She was the daughter of the late Rev. James Washington Sr. and Callie C. Smith Washington. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her brothers, James Jr. and Leon Washington, sisters, Flora Mae Franklin, Lola Kimbrough, Zephyrine Kelly, Betty Jo Eaves, Willie Odessa Joplin and Phyllis Jean Bell, special nephews, Ronald Washington and Butch Joplin. She also leaves behind her friends that have gone on before her, Betty Ditty, Nancy Runyon, Edith Kirk and Helen Horton. Ms. Washington was a 1957 graduate of Burch High School. After graduation she left Delbarton for New York City. There she was a house keeper and babysitter for more than 10 years. Her son Keith was born in New York and she left there to come home and take care of her mother. While taking care of her mother she had many jobs including working at a daycare and working as an underground coal miner. She worked for Old Ben Coal Co. on 3rd shift. She was a big sports fan. She loved watching her son play all the sports in high school. She never missed a game. Dorothy was a longtime member of Connolly Memorial Baptist Church. She also attended the Mount Lebanon Church at Matewan. Those left behind to cherish her memory include her son, Alfred Keith Washington Mosby and his wife, Jenny, brother, Irving Washington, grandchildren, Ahmaryah “Bam” Mosby, David Keith “DK” Mosby, Mason Keith Washington, Devin Keith Washington and Juliana Smith, special nephews and nieces, Carmen Blackmon, Sharon Joplin, Donald Washington, Byron Washington, Rev. Irvin Washington Jr., James Washington, Leon Washington, Donna Joplin, Robyn Joplin, Harriette Joplin, Ronald Joplin, Norma Washington, Jean Eaves, Raymond Joplin, and many more. She also leaves behind her special friends, Sabrina and Dickie Belcher and SamWoods. Funeral services will be held at the Connolly Memorial Baptist Church Saturday August 1, 2026 at 11:00am with Elder Thomas Moore, Rev. Charles Blackmon, Rev. Nigel Freeman and Evangelist Arva Reynolds officiating. Burial will follow in the Mountain View Memorial Gardens at Maher, WV. Visitation will be at the church from 5:00pm till 8:00pm Friday evening. Her Nephews will carry her to her final resting place. Chafin Funeral Home is honored to serve the Washington Family.
