Barbara Sue Kohari

Barbara Sue Kohari, age 86 and lifelong resident of Chattaroy, WV passed away peacefully at her residence on May 11, 2024 while surrounded by her children. Barbara was born September 27, 1937 to the late to the late Bennett and Aline Sammons. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 47 years, Jim Pete Kohari, sisters, Mary Lou Sammons May, Wilma Jean Sammons and JoAnn Sammons Stoiniski and her late daughter-in-law, whom she loved as her own, Tomeka Kohari. Barb is survived by her two sons, Dr. J. Timothy Kohari of Lexington, KY and Mark “Parkey” Kohari of Williamson, WV, Daughter, Jimetta and her husband Billy McCoy of Williamson, WV her grandchildren who lovingly called her “Mammy” include, Preston Tyler and wife Ashley Kohari, Dr. Trevor Cole and wife Cassie Kohari, Jaron Devin Kohari, and Hannah Faith McCoy all of Lexington, KY, Mallory and Cameron Kohari of Charleston, SC, and her 4 great-grandchildren, Kennedy Reese, Brooks James, Luka James and Dahila. She also leaves behind her sisters, Lucy and her husband Moses Pinson and Naomi and her husband James Stollings and brother, Benny Ray and his wife Hazel Sammons as well as a host of family and friends, nieces and nephews and her very special caregiver, Rosie Whitt. Barbara worked most of her life at a job she enjoyed. She was a cook for 39 years for the Mingo County Headstart. She was also an active member for many years at the Chattaroy Missionary Baptist Church. Barb spent her retired years being pampered and treated as the queen she was by her children and grandchildren. It was an unconditional love for the entire family and was very evident when you talked to her about family. Visitation will be held at the Chattaroy Missionary Baptist Church on Tuesday, May 14, 2024 at 11:00AM to 1:00PM and a short Celebration of Life service will start at 1:00pm with Deacons Bill Dotson, Moses Pinson and Pastor Kris Baisden officiating. Pam Warden will minister with playing of the piano (Barb always loved to hear her play). Pallbearers will be Tyler Kohari, Steven “Tib” Cook, Jeff Pinson and Mike May, Honorary Pallbearers will be Tim Kohari, Mark Kohari and Billy McCoy. If her friends wish to Honor her, they are welcome to do so by making a monetary donation to the Chattaroy Missionary Baptist Church where her late husband served as Deacon for many years. The address is as follows: Post office Box 224, Chattaroy, WV 25667. Barbara “Mammy” will be forever loved and sadly missed by all who knew her.
