Albert Lee "Abb" Starr

Albert Lee “Abb” Starr 75 of Belfry, KY formerly of Delbarton, WV passed from this earth on July 12, 2023 at his home surrounded by his wife and girls. Abb was born May 2, 1948 near Delbarton to the late Frank and Georgia Dillon Starr. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by 2 infant brothers, Frank Starr Jr. and Thomas Harold Starr. sons-in-law, Rudy Adkins and George Tiller and his precious beloved wife of 48 years Anita Diamond Starr, brothers and sister in law, Cecil, Jimmy, Doug, Delores and Tommy. He also is preceded in death by his furr buddy of 16 years, Doodle. Abb worked in the mining industry for 17 years and retired from Gearheart Communications after 36 years of service. He was an avid Ham Radio Operator (N81BK) since 1979. In his younger days he was an amateur and professional boxer. In 1977 he held the welter weight champion belt for West Virginia. He was also a devoted EMT. Abb along with other family members formed the METS which was a local EMT group. He never met a person he didn’t like and was an unforgettable friend to all. He always had a smile on his face and was a big prankster. Those left to grieve him forever include his beloved and devoted wife, Janet (Bias) Starr, His sweet sister, Daisy Vanover and husband, William, step-son, Gene Allen Bias and his wife, Shena, his much loved daughters, “Daddy’s Cotton Top” Angie Tiller, “Daddy’s Girl” June and her husband Johnny Justice, “Daddy’s Special Girl” Joetta and her husband Johnboy Eanes and “Daddy’s baby girl” Mary and her husband Elmer “Duck” Stewart grandsons, Scott Starr, Matt (Lindsey) Tiller, John (Brooke) Justice, Gary and Patrick Eanes, RJ (Tiffany) Adkins and Zac Adkins, 7 great-grandchildren, brothers and sisters-in-law, Bill (Jackie) Diamond, Burns (Mirt) Diamond, Loucinda Diamond, Denise (Larry) Jude, Myrtle Jean Runyon, Melissa Diamond, Linda Diamond, Evelyn (Oscar) Hernandex, Heidi and Steve, Columbus Justice Jr., and Tim (Yvette) Justice. Funeral services will be held at the Chafin Funeral Home chapel on Sunday, July 16, 2023 at 1:00pm with Pastor Thomas Moore officiating. Burial will follow in the Evans Cemetery at Pigeon Roost in Delbarton, WV. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Saturday evening from 6:00pm to 9:00pm. Pallbearers will be his grandsons and honorary pallbearers will be Charles Maynard, Garland Compton, Bill Diamond, Burns Diamond, Tim Fields and his sons-in-law. The family would like to give special thanks to the Appalachian Hospice Care of Pikeville, KY for their loving care and ministering to our family. Also special thanks to OSU Dr. Folefac’s office and to all who have brought food and visited the last few weeks with our dad.
